IGERT students take course on solar hydrogen

During the winter and spring semester the IGERT students undertook the interdisciplinary Problem Based Learning Solar Hydrogen in Renewable Energy Systems class. The course itself examined topics relating to solar hydrogen. This included the generation and use of hydrogen from solar energy sources, particularly photovoltaics and photo-electrochemical systems. The course also included: technical analysis of energy payback, applications of solar hydrogen systems: energy efficiency analysis of hydrogen systems; economics and policy.

The course was heavily project based and the students worked in interdisciplinary teams of 5. During the 6 sessions, there were 3 different problems that the students had to address. Meghan Schultz, TA in the class received a university teaching award and Prof. Watson and Opila will describe this class in the problem based learning literature
