Trainees create course on climate change

Our first cohort is currently developing a new interdisciplinary short course on Abrupt Climate Change to be offered in the fall of 2013. This course will be coordinated by our trainees and will feature lectures by a variety of disciplinary experts, as well as group discussions and workshops involving all participants. The course is open to all UMaine students, faculty, and staff, as well as interested members of the general public. It will be focused on ecological effects of abrupt climate change, and will simultaneously serve as one of the core training courses for A2C2 trainees. By involving trainees in the development of a course that they will ultimately take for credit, we feel that we are at the cutting-edge of collaborative and participatory curriculum development at the graduate level, which is in strong alignment with the interdisciplinary nature of the A2C2 IGERT. This course builds on an existing tradition of similar courses (designated as INT 500) offered by CCI.
