Design standards for floating wind turbines

Research by Stewart, Lackner and collaborators at NREL and at the University of Stuttgart has been published and presented at several conferences, and has led to a number of recommendations made to the International Electrotechnical Committee on design standards for floating wind turbines. These results are expected to influence future designs of commercial floating offshore wind turbines. The research focuses on simulation length requirements for floating turbines and the impacts on fatigue and ultimate loads.
