'Responsible Conduct of Research' seminar

Co-PI Richard Grosberg led the final offering of the REACH IGERT seminar on Responsible Conduct of Research. Students read papers from the literature and web, and discussed topics that included misconduct, data management, academic freedom, collaboration, conflicts of interest, mentor-mentee relationships, human subjects research for social scientists, publication and manuscript review, and the role of scientists in society. Faculty visitors germane to each topic visited each week to contribute to the discussion. These included campus administrators with oversight for research compliance, regional leaders in open science and data management, and REACH IGERT faculty who serve as journal editors or who have been active in advising legislators in science policy. Students commented favorably on the importance of discussions and information gained. Further, the campus RCR seminar has evolved to include topics that have long been a part of our RCR course, with some of the same speakers.
