Cross-disciplinary training curriculum offered

A cornerstone of our cross-disciplinary training curriculum was offered a second time and was well received by students and faculty participants. The original intent of the class was to provide a survey of biology to computationally centric students so that they can be better interdisciplinary team members. That objective expanded to focus on the types of data and computationally intensive biology research going on at UT and ORNL. The students in the course were solicited for suggestions on how to approach the challenges presented by the faculty and encouraged to propose collaborative research projects to study or address the problem.

As last year, SCALE-IT students, Jordan Utley (Genome Science), Rachel Fovargue (Ecology), Denise Koessler (Computer Science) were lead instructors for the class. They modified the previous curriculum, lectured or facility learning activities, and created the course scoring rubric.
