Programming lab for the intro bioinformatics class course offered

Our other key cross-disciplinary training course was also offered for second time and was exceedingly popular and well reviewed, so much so that the Genome Science program intends to add it as a permanent part of their curriculum, follow our student-led educational model, and work with the Microbiology department to create a sequel course for those students wanted an expanded exposure to programming and functional data analysis.

The course is taught as a programming lab for the intro bioinformatics class and is designed to provide PERL and Python scripting proficiency and specific training on critical tasks such as automated sequence alignment and primer design. The class is design to be led by a senior student (Dylan Story this year) and a junior student that takes over lead the following year (Caroline Rempe this year and next). Caroline will have a non IGERT student in the junior instructor role for next year.
