Education Achievements

Trainees attend summer institute for infectious disease modeling

Trainees in our fourth cohort, Jake Ferguson, Elizabeth Hamman, and Vincent Cannataro (Biology), Andy Garcia (Geography), and Jessica Langebrake (Mathematics) attended the Summer Institute for Statistics and Mathematical Modeling of Infectious Diseases held at the University of Washington in July 2012. Each student took one to two 2-week modules of intensive work on methods for representing infectious disease, including MCMC Methods in Infectious Disease Modeling, Graphs and Networking Theory in Infectious Disease Modeling, and Stochastic Epidemic Modeling for Infectious Diseases. They took these courses in preparation for their workshop project which they have been working on throughout the year, modeling the potential for introduction of Rift Valley Fever into United States.
