Urban Ecology Studio provides opportunities skill development

Through the Urban Ecology Studio, the 1st year Trainees not only gained content knowledge but more importantly the context and application of the gained knowledge. Students learned from each other; for instance, engineering students learned how to give effective presentations with visual aids from architecture students. They also gained solid negotiating skills as Architecture and Engineering students were put into groups for projects. The limited time given for the projects also forced rapid formulation of ideas and creativity across discipline boundaries. During the 10 day trip to Aalborg, Denmark, the Trainees found working with other international students invaluable in learning to collaborate with other research students from different cultures and disciplines. In particular, through the trip to Denmark, Trainees gained insight into how different countries handle public services and how this impacts the urban planning and design processes.
