Required courses for Aging Sciences minor

Our program requires trainees to work towards a Aging Sciences minor. The minor curriculum has been specifically designed to ensure that all trainees receive graduate education which integrates knowledge from our four research cores. Required courses include Behavioral & Social Sciences of Aging and Physiological & Molecular Aspects of Aging. This presents challenges for both the students, who may have limited or broad education in one area or the other, and for the instructor who is required to teach at the graduate level to students with considerably different backgrounds. This year, both students and the instructor for Physiological & Molecular Aspects of Aging approached the course with some trepidation. However, students reported that “the professor did an excellent job by making the course interesting to people with different educational backgrounds”. Further, both biological and social science students reported enhancements in critical thinking through interactive group work.
