New mini-course modules on energy topics

We have launched new “mini-course” modules dealing with both core earth energy fundamentals and specific energy technologies. Two IGERT core modules – “Earth system behavior and resources” and “Analysis of sustainable energy systems” -- were offered last year. New technology-specific mini-courses, taught as 1-month-duration, 12 lecture modules dealing with conventional fossil energy, energy transmission, distribution and storage, geothermal direct use and heat pumps, and nuclear energy were started last year. An energy module specific to consideration of the coupled relations between society and energy was offered. As a result of the success of this suite of modules, they will be continued in future semesters. Members of the Cornell IGERT program also participated in National Geothermal Academy in Reno Nevada in the summer of 2012.
