Education Achievements

Participants gain global perspective on research and develop international collaborations

In 2012, five trainees engaged in international research experiences. The experiences ranged from 10 days to 3 months in duration. Four students went to the Max Planck Institute in Germany and 1 student went to NUS in Singapore. The trainees conducted independent thesis research taking advantage of faculty expertise and facilities in these international settings. To date three publications have resulted from this experience and collaborations continue in 4 out of the 5 cases. Trainees, their co-advisers, and international faculty were uniformly positive about the experience. These results encouraged us to continue to require substantial international research experience from all our trainees.
