Thesis on the neurobiology of cognitive control

IGERT trainee Shabnam Hakimi will defend her thesis, "Characterization of the role of valuation in the neurobiology of cognitive control," in August, 2013. Her dissertation reflects work that has incorporated perspectives and techniques from biology, computational neuroscience, economics, and psychology on the neurobiology of cognitive control. In the future, she plans to use the skills that she has developed with the support of the IGERT program to bring the science of individual differences in self-control to the healthcare sector. As such, her training reflects the ways in which interdisciplinary training can not only result in new avenues of basic science research but also to novel approaches to applications such as healthcare.
