'Preparing Future Faculty' required course

IGERT trainees participate in a course entitled "Preparing Future Faculty" which introduces them to the responsibilities of faculty and improves their understanding of the variety of institutions in which faculty work. Through dialogue with faculty from a variety of institutions, discussions, readings, and on-campus experiences, students explore the academic expectations, and particular policies and procedures that characterize several different types of institutions of higher learning. They also have the opportunity to develop skills meant to assist them in applying for faculty positions and achieving success in their appointments. All IGERT students are required to take this course and have the option of pursuing other preparing future faculty courses that lead to a certificate in College Teaching and Learning. Many students who were not interested in a faculty position are now considering it after taking this course.
