Students share research and critique literature in seminar

The IGERT trainees participate in a seminar class each semester. During the fall semester, we conducted brainstorming sessions where the students present roadblocks/challenges in their research followed by a discussion with the audience on how to solve these challenges. These seminars provided the trainees with the opportunity to learn about others' research projects and to think outside their own research as they discussed solutions to the challenges. During the spring semester, we conducted journal article review sessions. One student would introduce the article and present the pros while another student would present the cons. Another student was assigned with leading the discussion. This session provided the students with the opportunity to practice their skills in critiquing published literature.
