Scientific Research Society offers grants and awards

All IGERT members were enrolled in the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society at the University of Cincinnati. IGERT trainees can interact with other Sigma Xi students and members from the UC faculty. The Sigma Xi sponsors grants and awards for research in different scientific fields. All IGERT students, who are also Sigma Xi members, were encouraged to apply for the “2012 UC Sigma Xi Student Grants-in-aid of Research (UC Sigma Xi GIAR).” Writing a grant proposal is a vital experience for graduate students who aim to become professionals in academia, industry, or government. Committee members sent evaluations with constructive comments and feedback to applicants, which will help improve their proposal writing abilities. One of our IGERT trainees, Andrew Breidenbach, was one of the three GIAR (Graduate In Aid of Research) award winners in the 2012-13 fiscal year and will present his findings at the Autumn Sigma Xi meeting to faculty and students.
