Trainee Achievements

Trainees work towards research, leadership, and collaboration goals

At the beginning of the year, Trainees established research, leadership, and collaboration goals that revolved around aspects of an interdisciplinary focus in bioenergy. During annual interviews, Trainees reported that they are making significant progress towards or have completed established goals. Many Trainees reported the weekly seminar as contributing to progress in their research goal by broadening their perspectives in bioenergy and gaining knowledge of other disciplines questions and issues. Serving as mentors to undergraduates is seen as the most beneficial in meeting leadership goals. As one Trainee expressed that in “guiding someone you have to think about how you convey things.” Interdisciplinary activities are contributing to progress in meeting collaboration goals. One Trainee stated that the original collaboration goal has not been met, but instead “tossed out” due to research results and was changed to “better fit with the research focus” of the team research project.
