Trainees mentor undergrad summer research fellows

The GLOBES-IGERT program continued a fourth year of offering summer research fellowships to undergraduate students. More than 20 students applied with 9 awarded positions: seven non-Notre Dame students were funded by IGERT and two Notre Dame students by University cost-share funds. GLOBES-IGERT trainees are actively involved in the REU program, they participate in the application review and interview process, and make final recommendations for project placement. They develop leadership and teaching skills in the mentoring process while nurturing undergraduate participation in STEM field research. GLOBES trainees added a weekly interdisciplinary research panel discussion over informal dinners and a field trip to the Lake Michigan dunes during the 10-week summer fellowship period. REUs gave poster presentations and talks during the multi-disciplinary Summer Research Symposium held on the Notre Dame campus.
