Adhesive properties of hafting glues

Beginning in October 2011, IGERT trainee Andrew Zipkin conducted an experimental archaeology project studying the material properties of hafting adhesives used to construct composite tools. IGERT funded the laboratory supplies needed to get the project underway and generate pilot data for his dissertation proposal. Since October, he has conducted approximately 240 separate experiments measuring the adhesive properties of plant resin-based hafting glues. The results from this project will be presented at the Paleoanthropology Society Annual Meeting in Memphis, TN during April 2012 and will be submitted for publication shortly thereafter.
