LifeChips Bootcamp visits RapidTech center

The 2011 IGERT LifeChips Bootcamp included a visit to the RapidTech center for a day-long workshop. Funded by NSF’s Advanced Technological Education program, RapidTech’s mission is to support industry & education at all levels, particularly in the adoption of RapidTechnologies to increase global competitiveness. During their visit, trainees learned about the technology behind additive manufacturing, a spectrum of new methods of making things: 3D printing, stereo lithography etc. Training continued with laser scanning, laser cutting/engraving, CNC matching, thermoforming, 3D printing, silicone mold making, and carbon composite demonstration. IGERT-LifeChips fellows reported that this workshop was both entertaining and educational. Many discovered that the center was equipped with machinery and technical support to assist them in their various research goals. As more IGERT-LifeChips fellows take advantage of the resources at RapidTech, this partnership will continue to thrive.
