WSU/UW Seminar series hosts 16 speakers

Over the last year the WSU/UW IPEM Seminar series hosted 16 speakers, mostly non-local and two from out of the country. Examples include Mathias Franz ("Social learning strategies: evolved strategic decision rules or side effects of learning dynamics on small time scales?"), David Sloan Wilson ("Evolving the Future: Toward a Science of Intentional Change"), Ben Allen ("How Interaction Structure Influences the Evolution of Social Behavior") and Joe Felsenstein ("Correcting for gene flow between populations when we infer adaptation of phenotypes to environmental variables"). Seminars were attended by a total of 316 people (averaging 20/seminar) including faculty, trainees, and other students from WSU-Pullman, WSU-Vancouver, and UW-Seattle. Speakers emphasized topics employing evolutionary logic (especially quantitative models) at the interface between anthropology and biology. Most talks are stored as DVDs for later reference. Trainees interact with and help choose speakers.
