Research Achievements

Synthesis of graphene using combustion flame synthesis

Nasir Memon (Rutgers, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) recently published one of the first reports on synthesis of graphene using combustion flame synthesis. The paper was published in Carbon (49 (15), 5064 – 5070, 2011). A patent entitled “Flame synthesis of nanomaterials” has also been filed. This research achievement is significant because flame synthesis allows the deposition of technologically important materials such as graphene in open air environments, substantially minimizing their cost.
