Research Achievements

Intelligent padfoot compactor

The interdisciplinary intelligent geoconstruction team composed of faculty and trainees from Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering have successfully completed a field implementation of an intelligent padfoot compactor. The padfoot roller was outfitted with instrumentation to measure soil properties as the roller is operating. The measurement system was developed to be wireless. This successful implementation enables the collection of extensive data to support the theoretical and numerical basis for this real time monitoring. The field implementation and initial results were presented by trainee Shawn Kimmel at the SPIE technical conference.
