Two-day outreach event in Chicago

All the IGERT trainees teamed up to develop a two-day outreach event for children from Chicago Public Schools mentored by educators with Project Exploration. The program ran on April 20th and 21st in classrooms at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. The activities that they develop focus on the research area of the motoIGERT program including how do animals control and coordinate their movement and how do animals use sensation to explore the world around them. One of the activities takes inspiration from the Hartmann lab and involves building giant whiskers that can be held by participants allowing kids explore the classroom like a rat and compare their experience to more human-like visual exploration.
