Education Achievements

Core course promotes leadership and mentoring

One of our core courses, "Problems in Genomics," allows trainees to work in interdisciplinary groups to identify and solve a research problem and then publish their findings in a multi-authored paper. This course is required of all trainees each year and thus includes both new trainees and more senior students. The senior students are encouraged to take leadership roles and mentor new students. Therefore, students entering our program benefit from the leadership of more senior students, and later act as mentors themselves.
