New in-situ X-ray absorption flow cell

IGERT Fellow, Ryan Davis, developed and implemented a new in-situ X-ray absorption flow cell capable of collecting EXAFS and XANES spectra while under realistic catalytic reaction conditions, such as CO oxidation and methane combustion. This allows characterization of the oxidation state and coordination environment of catalytically active sites while catalysis is occurring. This will help develop structure-property relationships that will enable the design of new and more efficient catalysts. This was done in collaboration with Drs. Jeffrey Miller and Ryan Nelson of Argonne National Laboratory and Convene IGERT Associate Joshua Kurzman.
