Education Achievements

Program includes a proteomics component

The IGERT Program has successfully leveraged work in several systems to include a proteomics component. This is a critical training objective in systems biology and our trainees will benefit from laboratory rotations and interdisciplinary efforts to include measurements of proteins in different microbiological systems. The IGERT Program has partnered with several ongoing projects involved with biological interactions in microbial communities (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory) and Antarctica microbiology (NSF). The activities in this area are reflected in a recent submission to the NSF MRI Program (Acquisition of a Gas Chromatograph-Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer) by IGERT related faculty and if successful will assist in developing proteomics as a major educational facility and thrust at MSU.
