Students select project topic and type

In the STAIRCase II class students were asked to select a sustainability topic that was of interest to them and to select the project type, e.g., case study, future scenario, sustainability analysis, etc. Trainees quickly learned that setting appropriate boundaries for their topic was necessary to restrict their subject and data presentation. For example, one student proposed to study the impact of livestock production and quickly realized a more focused study would be the impact of the poultry industry on the ecology. Another student realized that setting a boundary to a specific geographical area was critical to a meaningful study of his specific sustainable energy source. The students are also learned to present their findings as an honest broker, not letting their own feelings color the presentation of the material.
