Achievement

In August 2010, the K-12 Embodied and Mediated learning group of our IGERT was awarded a 5-year, $2.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation. The grant is titled Embodied STEM Learning Across Technology-based Learning Environments. It will support a series of laboratory and school-based studies to examine the impact of embodied learning on desktop computers, interactive whiteboards, and SMALLab. The group maintains a growing network of partners that includes K-12 schools and academic institutions. In Spring 2011, the K-12 group expanded to include additional faculty and students who are focused on the role of emerging technologies in the context of informal learning. This sub-group is building interactive exhibits that promote learning through exploration, experimentation, collaboration, and play and can be deployed in museums, science centers, community centers, and libraries.
