Trainee Achievements

Supporting watershed-based organizations

Three IGERT trainees, Susanna Blair, Anna Cathey, and Hollie Hall, have partnered with students and faculty in the University of Floridas College of Law to support watershed-based organizations in integrating policy relevant science into planning at the watershed scale. The Interdisciplinary student-faculty team has consolidated water quality data and other physical and social science parameters to determine the ecological health of selected watersheds and worked directly with stakeholder groups to design and develop management policies for their protection. Outcomes of this partnership are a Watershed Assessment Report for the Withlacoochee Watershed, helping to establish the University of Florida as an EPA Center of Excellence for Watershed Management, and an interdisciplinary paperon the science and policy surrounding large woody material in sand bed streams.
