Analyzing 3-D shapes of HIV-1 epitopes

Evgeny Shmelkov, a COB student in the Cardozo lab, did analysis work on analyzing the 3D shapes of HIV-1 neutralization epitopes in the V3 loop for sites of conserved structure that can be targeted by human monoclonal antibodies. The vast sequence variability in HIV-1’s gp120 has been a major obstacle to vaccine development, and this project aims to move towards solutions to this problem. This is the second paper for Mr. Shmelkov since entering the COB program.
