Fiber senors for health monitoring

Mr. Charles Jewart’s research is related to the advancement of structural health monitoring and energy systems via fiber optic sensors. Specifically, his interests are the development of fiber sensors for use in the structural health monitoring systems at ultra-high temperatures and cryogenic temperatures. From his research, he has been able to create highly sensitive and insensitive fiber sensors that can operate under conditions that are not well suited for conventional sensors. It is in these situations that energy generation and energy storage facilities often operate. In his recent peer reviewed publication, he found that an significant improvement over previous photonic crystal fiber pressure sensors.
