Research Achievements

Trainee collaborates with Physics colleagues

The major achievements made by IGERT trainee, Ben Clough (2011 Lemelson-Rensselaer Student Prize winner) from Electrical Engineering Department and his collaborators from Physics Department are: [1] Linking photoacoustics to THz electromagnetic radiation for the first time. [2] Demonstrating all air plasma THz spectroscopy for the first time. [3] Combining electrical engineering and signal processing, with a physical understanding of plasma dynamics to achieve a new understanding of the effects of picosecond electromagnetic THz pulses on the plasma photoacoustic emission.

Ben Clough has participated in the writing of a proposal draft for DTRA BAA with IGERT faculty X.-C. Zhang. Ben also participated in the writing of a patent disclosure.
