Search for novel and innovative materials

In the microelectronics field we are constantly searching for novel and innovative materials to compete with modern materials. While characterization of these materials is clearly important, one must first obtain these new materials. We encourage students to characterize materials to generate a deeper understanding of the physics of the system. However, when we wish to test new materials (e.g. III-V, organics, graphene, etc.) we often need first to understand how to acquire them. Cooperation with the electrical engineering, chemistry and materials science departments have enabled students to work with new materials that we may have not been able to characterize without these collaborations.
