Trainee leads team in business plan competition

Lucas Arzola, a CREATE-IGERT trainee, led an interdisciplinary team in the UC Davis 2010 Little Bang business plan pitch competition. The team consisted of an undergraduate student from Agricultural Economics, an MBA student and an Intellectual Property and Regulatory Affairs Business Development Fellow. Lucas made the business plan pitch, for their proposed start-up company, Inserogen, to a group of judges from the venture capital community. They received a $500 award and will compete with 9 other teams in the Big Bang Business Plan Competition in May. Inserogen utilizes a plant-based technology that Lucas is developing in his doctoral research for rapid manufacturing of veterinary and human vaccines. Lucas Arzola also won first place in the ISPE (International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineering) San Francisco Bay Area Student Poster competition in May, 2009 and went on to compete at the ISPE Annual meeting in San Diego in November, 2009.
