Mechanisms of energy transfer

IGERT Fellow, Alexis Ostrowski, has been investigating the mechanism of energy transfer that occurs between semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) and metal complexes associated with the surface of the QDs. She is developing a model to describe how the energy transfer changes in terms of QD size and metal complex absorbance. The results will provide a guideline for other QD/metal complex systems in understanding the energy transfer process. This work has been in collaboration with Dr. Alexander Mikhailovsky at UCSB. She has also continued the collaboration with Prof. Ian Megson's lab born out of her visit to UHI Millennium Institute as part of her IGERT supported international internship in March 2009. The work has recently been published in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.
