New three-dimensional scattering approach

IGERT participants at the University of Colorado - Department of Electrical, Computer, and Energy Engineering have shown a new three-dimensional scattering approach to the design of aperiodic volume optical elements. Aperiodic volume elements that multiplex spatial and spectral information are numerically designed and experimentally demonstrated for the first time. This new design method allows for new functionalities by making use of the now available three-dimensional degrees of freedom arising from the expansion of the traditional capabilities of volume holography, photonic crystals and diffractive optics.
