Student trained in electron microscopy theory

Mike Anderson, an IGERT fellow, spent 12 months of intensive training in electron microscopy theory and applications at NIST in Maryland. This IGERT internship enabled Anderson to collect STEM data on a series of misfit layered compounds with controlled nanoarchitecture, which lead to the discovery of size dependent structural distortions of PbSe. The facilitating of internships like this enable fellows to learn to state of the art research techniques from experts in the field, expanding the research opportunities beyond the campus of the University of Oregon.
