Achievement

Soumitra Choudary (IGERT associate) completed an industrial internship at Abbott Laboratories, where he worked in the physicochemical characterization group in the Global Pharmaceutical Operation division. Soumitra investigated the relationship between bulk material properties and drug-release characteristics, and was tasked with developing a standard operating procedure for testing polymeric materials using rheological technique. Soumitra demonstrated that rheology can be used to accurately determine material characteristics, and is sensitive enough to differentiate the subtleties that occur due to the presence of different ingredients in the formulation. Soumitra benefitted greatly from this internship, recalling "The internship proved to be an extremely fruitful and rich experience for me, and gave me a hands-on experience of industrial scale R&D setup."
