Anion-quadrupole interactions in protein structures

An IGERT student has joined an interdisciplinary team to verify and quantify the significance of anion-quadrupole interactions in protein structures. Identify this interaction will help with future protein folding studies and research applications. The IGERT student has served a key role in advancing this research as he understands the basic biophysics and has the computer programming skills (learned in an IGERT sponsored class) to build the code necessary to analyze the thousands of protein interactions necessary to achieve the desired result. The resulting research has established, through quantum mechanical calculations based on the database analysis, the potential strength of the anion-quadrupole interaction; a significant step forward in the project.
