Achievement

After selection of the trainees, a key aspect was to quickly initiate the process of community building so that the students felt that they were part of a larger program. Towards this end, the first group of trainees participated in a half-day "boot camp," that included an introduction to the program, its opportunities, and team building activities. In addition, lectures on ethics in research were included. Feedback surveys from the students indicated that they would like to expand the boot camp in future years to include more introductory lectures and collaborative activities.
