New Engineering for Humanity undergrad certificate

UPitt's IGERT fosters a culture that promoted the need to develop a new Engineering for Humanity undergraduate certificate. The new certificate specifically addresses the need for engineers to be appropriately trained to combine ecologic, economic, and sustainability concepts in order to address humanitarian needs. This certificate incorporates both service learning (performed under a faculty advisor and assigned three credits per committee approval) and course work, as well as an international option that will work in conjunction with UPitt's Brazilian relationships. The construct enables students to delve into a broad array of topics including energy, green construction, and water management, major foci of the Mascaro Center for Sustainable Innovation, who serves as an academic resource and administrative home for this initiative and UPitt's IGERT program.
