Northwest Advanced Renewables Alliance

Achievement/Results

A $40 million USDA Center led by Washington State University will support a major expansion of tribal project partnerships across the Northwest and provide graduate students new opportunities for tribal engagement in their energy research. Founded originally as part of the NSF funded IGERT entitled Bioenergy for Sustainable Societies tribal partnership projects have become part of renewable energy training at the UW. This successful model for engagement of regional tribes will be disseminated to seven partner universities. Experienced IGERT trainees are involved in establishing this new activity.

Address Goals

This activity continues the applied, integrative and interdisciplinary approach to renewable energy studies that the Bioenergy IGERT developed. The approach used in the research is unique in its collaboration with tribes and contains promise for energizing a new field of scholarship that could be called community engineering.
