IGERT program becomes permenantly funded by AK State

Achievement/Results

The Alaska State Legislature and Alaska Governor, through a request from the University of Alaska’s Board of Regents, has increased the university’s operating budget to include a $300,000 allocation to support the Resilience and Adaptation Program. This funding secures the program’s future and will be used to provide fellowships to graduate students of the program, support for the program’s director and coordinator, and fund program activities. The UAF Graduate School has matched that state’s allocation by providing additional fellowships for students of the program. The on-going funding of the program is the direct result of the original IGERT grant and the IGERT renewal grant that established the program, supported its development, and helped to demonstrate its value to the university and the state. Clearly, the IGERT funds have helped to change the culture and offerings at UAF to embrace interdisciplinary studies focused on social-ecological systems.
