Fast formation of poly-crystalline silicon through nanoparticle seeding

The image shows the crystallization of an amorphous silicon film, starting from deliberately included silicon nanocrystal “seeds.” The film crystallizes without an incubation phase, which is typically observed in the crystallization of amorphous silicon. This advance may lead to the faster production of polycrystalline silicon films and may help lower the cost of silicon solar cells.
