Nanomedicine Discussions and Meetings

Achievement/Results

Nanomedicine Discussion and Meetings: The Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship (IGERT) Nanomedicine Science and Technology Program at Northeastern University (NEU) has established a weekly discussion group in the field of nanomedince. The field of nanomedicine is constantly evolving and it is imperative to keep the students in this program abreast with the latest findings in this field. This is achieved through the Nanomedicine Meetings wherein leading experts in the field of Nanomedicine from the local area hospitals and research establishments are invited to give seminars. This provides a unique opportunity for members of the IGERT community to learn the latest in this cutting-edge research area.

Address Goals

Nanomedicine is the application of nanotechnology to medicine and is relatively new field of nanoscience. There is tremendous potential for this field in medicine and has been recognized by the National Cancer Institute as one of the promising approaches in the fight against cancer. However, students embarking in this area do not have the necessary courses in their curriculum to prepare them in this field. The IGERT Nanomedicine Science and Technology Program at Northeastern University has developed three courses to address this issue and train the IGERT fellows in this burgeoning topic. A unique aspect of one this course is to invite guest lecturers to share the latest findings in their nanomedicine-related research efforts. These meetings are also structured such that it acts as a forum for the IGERT fellows to share, interact and exchange research-related topics.
